Bungendore Rural is a family owned company commenced by Milton and Lois Simms in 1980. Initially specialising in plants and horticulture with a strong landscaping arm, the company focus is now on providing a professional one stop depot for farm and garden supplies.

The business is still family owned.

Our People

Andrew Simms

Trade Assistant

Andrew is employed in our retail shopfront and specialises in water supply and power equipment products.   After completing year 12 in Canberra, Andrew joined our service team as a trade assistant and also completed training in electrical test and tag.  He is developed a thorough understanding of small internal combustion engines and the equipment they power.

Outside of work Andrew bouldering, sailing, mountain bike riding and snow skiing.  In summer he participates in the local Austag competition.

Rhett Cox

Water Services Coordinator

Rhett initially joined BRural last century as a pump fitter and gained a tremendous depth of experience in rural and domestic pumping systems.  After a number of years operating his own pump repair business, Rhett rejoined BRural as coordinator of our Pump Services Team. Rhett processes all incoming jobs,  procures spare parts and schedules work for our service team as well as undertaking pump repairs in our workshop.  With extensive industry training from leading manufacturers such as Mono, Onga and Grundfos Pumps, backed by nearly 30 years experience in the pumping game, Rhett is one of the most capable pump technicians in the ACT region.

Away from work Rhett enjoys caring for his horses on his rural property.

Steve Kirby

Yards Person

Steve has been our yardie for 4 years, he keeps our large yard neat and tidy and you can often find him on the forklift or loader helping out a customer. Prior to BRural Steve worked in warehousing and manufacturing. Outside of work Steve runs his own private business called Stone Dog Meadery for 7.5 years producing World Class Mead and Braggots. Steve and his wife own a property called “Eagles Nest” where they run pigs (large blacks and saddlebacks) as well as poultry. They run the property with an emphasis on sustainability and protecting the natural biodiversity of the property.

Rob

Trade Assistant/Mechanic

Rob has been apart of the BRural team for 6 months. He has previous experience working at GYC Mower Depot in Sydney and also at GLG (Green Life Group) using mowers to upkeep lawns and gardens around council and government buildings. Rob has a vast knowledge on most motors including cars, motorbikes, chainsaws, mowers and also works on petrol water pumps. Outside of BRural Rob enjoys working on cars and bikes as well as having a passion for cooking and playing the guitar.

Sales Assistant

Bec only recently joined the BRural team in November 2021. Prior to joining us she has been in the industry since 2014 working in various rural supply operations. Bec is a huge animal lover and enjoys spending time with her fur babies.

Matt Rombouts

Hardware Manager

Matt has been with BRural for 17 years, starting as a junior weekend staff member in 2006. Over those 17 years, Mathew has acquired great knowledge and skills over a broad portfolio of products. After completing his Certificate 3 in Business, and achieving Husqvarna Gold Certification, Matt moved into his current management role. Matthew’s strives to keep the showroom up to date with stock orders, shop layouts & staff training and mentoring, Matthew provides excellent customer service, and is always striving to meet each and every customer’s expectations.

Outside of work Matthew takes great pride in restoring and working on retired machinery, and Mig Welding.

Cindie Blackman

Finance and Administration Manager

With over 15 years at BRural, Cindie knows the admin side of the business inside and out. Cindie is responsible for the smooth operation of business administration and finance. A real systems person, she has pretty well singlehandedly written the procedures manual for the business. Cindie devotes her free time to renovating and tending to her menagerie.

Corinne Field

Bookkeeper

Corinne’s primary role is debtor management and the paying of supplier invoices. The smooth operation of the office is largely due to her unflappable nature and quiet resolve to get the job done. Corinne lives on a small farm, is passionate about her horses and loves home renovation.
